Alumni 1st XI move up to LCFA County Premier League

After impressing an LCFA Management Committee in a vetting meeting, who described our application as breath-taking, and after being voted in by members of LCFA at the AGM, we are proud to announce Alumni 1st XI will be moving from LOBAL Division One to LCFA County Premier Division 2 South.

This is without doubt a positive step, in what signals the biggest summer for our young club since the founding season in 2004. After winning 4 out of a posible 5 trophies last season, not losing an away game, and losing only one cup game (in the County Cup Final), the new league seems the logical step up for the 1st XI.

It certainly will not be an easy task, with games against strong Old Xaverian, Liobians, Alder and South Liverpool teams. There are other unknown quantities in the league also. But Alumni will be going all out for promotion by winning the league. 2nd place in division two south will take a team to a promotion play-off decider against the division two north runners up. Plus, there are new cup competitions in the form of Lord Wavertree Cup, George Mahon Trophy & County Junior Cup.

It also means joining a league that are classed as a supply league for non-league football and are part of the FA national league system, placing us on the bottom rung of a very very big ladder.

It will be sad to leave LOBAL division one, after some great memories. I am sure a few clubs will not miss us, particularly those clubs that have consistently struggled to beat us or those clubs who have come up against us only for their trophy ambitions to be ended ... again and again and again!!! We will keep a close eye on the goings on in LOBAL Division One next year, and we hope that our friends at Naylorsfield reclaim their title. Although we are sure Bootle, Heygreen & possibly even Bankfield will push Naylorsfield all the way.

We will still be represented in the LOBAL set-up by the introduction of our 2nd XI, who will move straight to LOBAL Division 3. The development of our 2nd XI is as exciting as the move to the LCFA County Premier League for the 1st XI.

It really is a fantastic summer. Although it is a lot of work ahead for the club in the close season, to both strenthen and to bolster their playing numbers, and to deal with the huge administrative burden that teams in different leagues will bring. But it will be a challenge the club will relish.

Who would have thought that after the heroics at Carrington in the Lucozade Cup, the summer could get any better for Alumni FC ... It just has !!!
