Jon was one of the three founder members of the football club, along with brother Nick and then-housemate Martin English. In a shake up of the club structure at the end of the 2005-06 season, Jon became the teams first player manager for the 2006-07 campaign.
A striker by trade, Jon has an impressive strike rate of more than a goal every two starts and is also a regular contributor to the assists column. Some of Jons goals have been of huge importance; the last minute equaliser against Mossley Hill in the Bill Hughes Cup and back in 2005 a brace from Jon secured the clubs first league title against Wavertree - the first of these strikes was also in fact Alumnis 100th goal.
Off the field Jon is the club-s Hon. Secretary - probably the most important position within the club. His endless hours of work were rewarded when he was presented with the Liverpool Old Boys- League Secretary of the Year award for 2007-08.
Jon has been the club manager since 2006. He garners more respect amongst the players than anyone else. He is the driving force of the playing side of the club and he cares more than anyone else about the continued success and development of Alumni FC.
On any Alumni social, the (in)famous "Jon Cockrell" song can be heard ringing out.
Favourite Alumni Moment - Paul Westoby-s last gasp equaliser in the 2005 Grimshaw Cup Final, ensuring the tie went into extra-time.
The second team he cares about on a Saturday - Liverpool
During the week - Doctor
Do mention: Fife Rangers (2004), Wavertree (away) 2005, Hon. Sec of the Year 2008-09, Mossley Hill (2006) last min equaliser, winning LCFA Div 2 title whilst on honeymoon
Don-t mention: 1 or 2 opposition managers (no names), league fine 08-09, referee marks, Mossley Hill (2006) booking for claiming Maradona style goal
