Alumni Football Club

Welcome to the Alumni Football Club website.

Alumni Football Club was founded in 2004 by a group of graduates looking for a further challenge to the University of Liverpool's inter-department football league, in which they had competed successfully throughout their studies.

Originally formed predominantly with players from the Law and Medical faculty teams, Alumni now includes graduates and undergraduates from all three of Liverpool’s universities. In making the most of the amateur footballers residing in the city’s ‘student’ population it is hoped that Alumni’s longevity can be secured for many years to come.

In the summer of 2004 an application was made to the Liverpool Old Boys League and a place in Division Five was awarded to the fledgling club. Despite losing its very first competitive game (agonisingly 5-4 after trailing Liobians 4-1 and levelling the tie at 4-4), the club’s place at the bottom rung of the LOBL ladder was brief; only two further games resulted in loss and promotion as champions was achieved. Cup competitions brought further success in that first season as Alumni accomplished a penalty shoot-out victory over Kingsford in the Grimshaw Cup Final at Wyncote.

Alumni found the step up to the Fourth Division difficult to start with, losing two of their first three games. However, points were only conceded in two more games and the club once again finished the season decorated as champions and double winners.

After the ‘Double Double’ Division Three was bypassed as Alumni were promoted into Division Two, in which they remained unbeaten until March and again secured a league and cup double.

As the club enters its fourth season it is now competing in the highest tier of the Liverpool Old Boys League, where all involved are hoping Alumni’s success can be sustained.
